In the darkness beyond life itself, Necron lay in wait upon the Hill of Despair. It was watching television. Necron had watched this station for some time, and was growing attached to, what he assumed, were the stations mascots. It followed the drama of Gaia and Terra endlessly, and was eagerly awaiting the final confrontation between Kuja, the first Angel of Death and Zidane, his replacement.
"The dramatic conclusion of our story will be right back, after a word from our sponsors!"
Necron sighed to itself.
why can't you just give us fans even the slightest amount of information on this new Final Fantasy! If I wasn't an immortal, all powerful being, I would be rather put off by this trend." Lamented the Embodiment of Death as he watched Zidane chase a Coca-Cola cap across Alexandria for the millionth time. "Oh! It's back on!"
Necron observed with the tempered focus of only a true fanboy as Kuja clashed with Zidane and company for the final time. At last, Kuja staggered.
"Oh, what an amazing battle! I knew that they- wait, what?" Necron stopped as Kuja raised his head again.
I'm gonna die anyway
I won't have to be afraid anymore
But I'm not gonna die alone. You're all coming with me!" Kuja struggled to speak. Then, he cast Ultima. Everyone on the screen died.
What? WHAT?!" Necron cried out with the fury of a thousand- thousand newly Aerith-less gamers as it destroyed its television. "What the HELL kind of finale was that? This is FINAL FANTASY, not frigging IDEON! I refuse!" There was a flash of light and Zidane materialized with his party at the bottom of the hill.
"That's it! That was disgraceful! I'll kill you again for this ending!" Necron fumed as it conjured up what it deemed to be a fitting "Final Boss" speech as Zidane came to.
"What happened to the crystal
?" Zidane stumbled across the rocks. "
Where is this?"
Necron replied from on high: "You stand before the final dimension, and I am the darkness of eternity
" Necron delighted. This was perfect.
"Wh- who are you!?" Zidane shouted up into the air.
"All life bears death from birth." continued Necron. "Life fears death, but lives only to die. It starts with anxiety. Anxiety becomes fear." ("What?" Necron floundered. This was going downhill. "Think, think
what else can you use
Ah! I'll borrow from Yoda! If Thorn did it then so can I!") "Fear leads to anger
anger leads to hate
hate leads to- (Erm
The only cure for this fate is total destruction. Kuja was a victim of his own fear. He concluded he could only save himself by destroying the origin of all things- the crystal." ("And you should have been able to stop him! You're the damn hero!")
Zidane looked up. "What the heck are you talking about? Why are you telling me all this?"
Had it been physically possible, Necron would have facepalmed.
Now the theory is undeniable. Kuja's actions prove it. All things live to perish. At last, life has uncovered this truth. Now it is time to end this world." Necron felt triumph at the sheer epicness of its speech.
"Wh-What do you mean by that!?" Zidane stammered.
("You are so F***ing stupid.")
"I exist for one purpose
To return everything back to the zero world ("The what?") where there is no life and no crystal to give life. In a world of nothing, fear does not exist. This is the world that all life desires." Necron paused at that last line to look down and make sure it did look like a giant, naked Rei Ayanami. It did not, and there was great relief amidst the growing frustration at Zidane's thick skull.
"Who the hell do you think you are!?" Zidane yelled back. Finally, progress. "You're not ending anything! Never! Not as long as we have the will to live!" Finally! Boss battle time!
Your fears have already deluded you. One day you will choose destruction over existence, as Kuja did. When he sought to destroy the crystal, the purpose of life ended. Now, come
enter the zero world ("Or whatever
") that you desire
"No! We'll destroy you and prove you wrong! And through our memories, future generations will see that we can overcome any fear!" Zidane slumped. "
We can't give up now
We have to fight together. Even if we lose, it doesn't matter
Our memories will live on inside others. So even if we are born to die, I'm not afraid. I'm gonna live!"
In its head, Necron cheered as the party rose to face it. Finally, this amazing story would have a true final ending. And as Necron faded away after defeat, it died knowing that it was to be the unsung hero that fixed the ending of Final Fantasy IX, leaving the amazing story with only one flaw-
